Get out for the day

8th May 2009, 11:07am

If the weather is good next week and you have some time on your hands, why not visit the lovely Chenies Manor in Rickmansworth? It's a gorgeous 15th & 16th century Manor House with fortified tower, the original home of the Earls of Bedford, visited by Henry VIII and Elizabeth I.

It contains contemporary tapestries and furniture, hiding places, collection of antique dolls, medieval undercroft and well. Surrounded by beautiful gardens which have featured in many publications and on TV, a Tudor sunken garden, a white garden, herbaceous borders, a fountain court, a physic garden containing a very wide selection of medicinal and culinary herbs, a parterre and two mazes. The kitchen garden is in the Victorian style with unusual vegetables and fruit.

Opening Times: 1 Apr - 28 Oct: Wed & Thur & BH Mons, 2 - 5pm. Last entry to house 4.15pm. Groups by arrangement at other times. Admission: House & Garden: £5.50, Garden only: £4.00

Chenies Manor, Buckinghamshire, WD3 6ER. Telephone: 01494 762888
