Latest: Council's future in doubt in Croxley Green
Furious Croxley Green parish councillors have blasted a decision to prevent it cutting the grass at The Green and Stones Orchard.
The council was told by its landlords Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) last week that its long-standing grounds maintanence contract for the sites would be cancelled – despite an offer to carry out the work for free.
The decision, which leaves the council’s two full-time rangers with a greatly reduced work-load, has caused some to question the council’s future.
However, disgruntled members have criticised a decision they claim puts small financial savings ahead of the proud history and traditions of the village and its council.
They fear that a private contractor could not be trusted to maintain the high standards villagers had come to expect – in particular during the time of the Revels festival and November’s Remembrance Day parade – and are asking the district council to reconsider its decision.
Councillors agreed at the end of the meeting to ask the district council to think again about its decision; citing concerns over public events, and the quality of works.
As the situation stands a new contractor, yet to be announced, will take over the contract in November.
