County forces join to combat arson attacks in Watford
Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service and Hertfordshire Police are working together to overcome a recent spate of arson attacks in Watford.
Over the past two weeks, two post boxes have been set fire to deliberately on Prestwick Road in South Oxhey, and Eastbury Road in Watford.
Watford Station Commander Steve Tant, said: “We are fortunate in Hertfordshire that we don’t suffer from a great deal of arson incidents. However, in the last two weeks, there has been a spate of deliberate fire setting which is unacceptable. These acts are incredibly selfish and we will assist the Police in any way to bring arsonists to justice.
“Arson is extremely dangerous and currently costs the county around £17 million each year. I would ask whoever is responsible to examine their conscience and remember that while we are attending these incidents, it means we’re not available to attend other genuine emergencies."
Dacorum Neighbourhood Inspector Peter Edwards, speaking on behalf of Watford and Three Rivers Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships, said: “This mindless vandalism is totally unacceptable.
“Arson is a serious offence with serious consequences and any individuals responsible could be prosecuted.
“We would urge anyone with any information relating to arson offences to come forward and contact us,” added Edwards.
Readers that want to report a crime, should contact Hertfordshire Constabulary on their non-emergency number 0845 3300 222 in confidence or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers on 0800 555111.
