The story that sparked huge debate among WeLoveRickmansworth.co.uk readers has surfaced once again.

Three Rivers District Council has received formal notice from Skanska/Balfour Beatty for the construction of two permanent environmental mitigation bunds (soil mounds) alongside the M25 – both between Shepherd’s Lane and Junction 17 at Mill End, one on the Chorleywood side of the motorway and the other on the Rickmansworth side.

It has been claimed that the building of the bunds will further protect the surrounding environment and also reduce the impact of the roadworks on local residents.

These replace an earlier proposal for a permanent environmental mitigation bund on the Rickmansworth side only.

Local residents should comment on this proposal within 28 days, and can download the proposals at www.threerivers.gov.uk.

'Bund' was the name of a European Jewish socialist movement founded in Russia in 1897.

Though something tells me this isn't the 'bund' that the story refers to.

In fact i'm pretty sure that this story is referring to another type of 'bund', which is a large mound of soil used to block or at least reduce the impact of construction work (for instance) on the surrounding environment and local residents.

Will these bunds make any difference? The way I see it the damage to the local environment, not to mention the noise pollution, will be huge - bund or no bund.

Though I could be wrong. What do other residents think?
