Holocaust remembered at county libraries
Libraries across the country have arranged topical displays from their stock on the theme of the Holocaust and more recent atrocities to help mark National Holocaust Memorial Day.
The national day takes place on January 27 each year and offers an opportunity for people to reflect upon the ways in which the Holocaust and more recent genocides, such as those in Cambodia and Rwanda, have relevance in today's society.
Many books have been written about the Holocaust and more recent atrocities by survivors, refugees and by others bearing witness in the form of personal testimony, fiction and poetry.
Among the titles on the list – all of which are stocked or can be reserved by local libraries – are: Boy in the striped pyjamas (John Boyne), The Holocaust: roots, history and aftermath (David Crowe), Children with a star (Deborah Dwark) and The Holocaust industry (Norman Finkelstein).
Watford (pictured) and Chorleywood libraries are also showing short films to mark the day.
